Hundreds of families gathered this weekend at our school to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with a spectacular family fair.
This year’s Dragon Boat Festival was a vibrant showcase of culture, community, and fun. A highlight of the event was the stunning Dragon Dance performance by London Lion Dance, captivating the crowd with its vivid movements and traditional music. The dragon, a symbol of power, strength, and good luck, danced through the playground, delighting both children and adults alike.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of traditional Chinese foods. The delicious Zòngzi 粽子, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, were a favourite among many. You Bao Mi served up tasty Bao Buns, and MINE Hammersmith offered delicious Bubble Tea.
The excitement peaked with the Dragon Boat race, where teams of students competed in a race carrying large inflatable dragons.
Huw May, Head of Kensington Wade, expressed his delight at the event’s success, stating, “Our Dragon Boat Festival Family Fair has brought together our community in celebration of Chinese culture and tradition. The performances, the food, and the boat race all contributed to an unforgettable day. At Kensington Wade, we pride ourselves on our unique bilingual education, which allows us to celebrate and incorporate such important cultural events into our school life.”
This event, open to the public, saw a wonderful turnout and was a testament to the vibrant and inclusive community at Kensington Wade. Kensington Wade is a traditional British prep school with a unique difference – it offers an immersive bilingual education in Mandarin Chinese. The school blends the best of British and Chinese cultures, providing a rich, diverse learning environment for all its students.
